Steel & Rye Restaurant

    The Steel & Rye, a restaurant and bar in Milton MA had unusual roots. Operating out of an old garage in Lower Mills, it took its cue from the history surrounding its location. The neighborhood was founded on local farming, milling and manufacturing. Steel & Rye embraced this heritage and created a dining experience focused on Americana cuisine in a setting reminiscent of its historic past.

    That setting, however, had a severe noise issue. The wall dividing the kitchen from the dining room was a partial wall, accenting the high wooden ceilings and lending itself to a very open feel.  What it didn’t do was stop all the busy kitchen noise from traveling over the divider and into the dining room.  

    Not wanting to give up their beautiful ceiling, exposed beams and open feel, the restaurant owners contacted Sonic-Shield’s parent company New England Soundproofing, hoping we could come up with an answer while preserving what they loved about the architecture. With our REVRB® Acoustical Panels and Baffles, we were able to provide an acoustical solution without losing any of the historic feel.

    Custom made double-sided Acoustic Baffles were hung over the wall that divided the kitchen and dining area, allowing noise absorption on both the kitchen and dining room side. Then custom colored panels were hung on the ceiling bulkheads.  The result was a look that complimented the style of the Steel & Rye while significantly reducing the noise levels.
